Judges Critique:
I would like to thank the committee of The South Western Great Dane club for inviting me to judge their Open Show. It was a real privilege to have so many lovely dogs to go over.
Minor Puppy Dog 1 ()
1st White’s – Jutlanders Beam Me Up (Imp DNK), 7 month fawn boy, showing great strength for one so young, welldeveloped head, with good length to muzzle, dark eye, correct bite, nice drop of lip, and good ear set, lovely arch to neck leading into well laid back shoulders, brisket down to elbow, good top line, tight cat like feet, lots of growth to come. Moved well. Very happy to award him Best Puppy in Show, surely one to watch for the future.
Puppy Dog 2 ()
1st Thurlby’s – Santanna Special Legacy at Justinian (Imp IKC), 11 Month Fawn Boy, tall boy with much more growth to come. Stunning head piece, dark eye, correct bite, good length to neck, nice shoulder placement, good topline, and angulations, nice tuck up. Good feet. Moved well.
2nd Piper’s – Danemoor Black Velvet – 11 month Black, lovely coat, good head, with correct bite, nice drop of lip, good strong neck and topline, nice angulation, a little unsettled initially but did settle, and once settled moved well.

1st Pipers – Danemoor Black Velvet – 2nd in Puppy Dog
Yearling Dog 1 ()
McLellan’s _ Tayhamblue Show Must Go On with Anadain – 18 Month rich fawn boy, Head coming along nicely, dark mask and eye, good drop of lip, correct bite, nice ear set, good length to neck, flowing into correct lay of shoulder, lovely topline and tail set. Good depth to brisket, with nice tuck up, good straight bone and nice feet, well angulated, which allowed him to move with drive. Told later that he had hurt his paw, it certainly didn’t detract from his movement on this occasion. Happy to award him Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex. Very promising young dog.

1st Black’s – Culseandanes Lord Zeus to Bandwar – 15 month nicely marked harlequin boy, lovely head, with good planes, good bite and nice drop of lip, nicely carried ears, strong neck into good shoulders, good topline, good angulation, moved well. Would like to see this boy in a bigger ring, as I think he would give a bit more of himself.
2nd Piper’s – Danemoor Black Velvet – 2nd in Puppy Dog & first in Junior Dog

Limit Dog 2 ()
1st Newton’s – OSW Shlarra Smooth Mover JW ShCM ShCEx – Lovely upstanding fawn boy of 2 years, strong head, with correct planes, good bite, nice drop of lip, and dark eye, nice neck into good shoulder placement, good depth to brisket, and good width across chest, strong straight bone, and tight feet, well angulated, moved well. One of my considerations for top spot, very nice dog.
2nd Holland’s – Socar Nosey Parker at Dramalex – very nice 2 year old fawn boy, unfortunate to come up against 1st, as I’m sure they could change places on any given day. Similar attributes to first, slightly richer tone to coat, and slightly smaller stature, but all dog.
Special Veteran Dog 1 ()
1st Flanagan’s – Dainmajik Dante For Soupury – Lovely mantle boy of just over 9 ½ years, looking fabulous for his age, lovely outline, losing a little muscle behind, but this did not detract from his movement, which impressed me no end. Lovely head, good teeth, dark eye, lovely ears which he can still use. Good neck into correct shoulders, good topline, nice angulation. Moved well. A credit to his owners.
Special Open Fawn dog 2 ()
1st Ingram’s – Dainmajik The Wizard (AI) – Very nice 5 year old, lots of strength throughout, good head, dark eye, lovely ear set, and nice drop of lip, strong neck flowing into correct shoulders, strong topline held well on the move, nice croup and tail set, good angulations, moved well.
2nd Holland’s – 2nd in Limit Dog

1st Martin’s – Thebyreblue True Valour – Strong looking steel blue boy, lovely overall outline, good head, with correct planes, good bite, nice drop of lip, well arched neck leading into good shoulders, good depth to brisket, which is well down to elbow, nice width across chest, good topline and well angulated, moved well.
2nd Sneddon’s – Culseandanes Blue Posidon – very nice boy, slighter in build than first, but very well constructed, lots to like. Good head, and lovely neck into correct shoulders, strong topline and nice tail set, good angulations, moved well.
3rd Pepper’s – Starlight Cronos Avec Foaldown

1st Pepper’s – Ch Danemoor Black Watche for Sarawen – 4 year old boy, in stunning condition, gleaming black coat, loved his head, good planes and expression, correct bite, and lovely ear set, nice neck into correct shoulders, good topline, good depth to brisket, and width across chest, strong straight bone and good feet, good angulation, pushed very hard for top spot in boys, and it was a whisker between them, but very happy to award this boy Reserve Best Dog.
2nd Bollon’s – Bandwar For Aces High – nice boy of 3 years, good head, good length to neck into good shoulders, good topline, and tight feet, moved OK.
Special Open Harlequin Dog 1 ()
1st Pockock’s – Tamzdane Oh My Apple Pie JW – 4 year old perfectly marked harlequin boy, strong outline throughout, good strength to head, correct bite, and lovely ears. Nice length to neck into strong shoulders, good topline, deep chest, well angulated fore and aft, moved with drive.
Special Open Mantle Dog 3 (1)
1st Burton’s – Ravendane Deal Me In with Elbarevol – what a beautifully marked mantle, gleaming coat and shown in pristine condition, balanced boy, with good planes to head, and nice drop of lip, dark eye and nice ear set, great length to neck into correct shoulder, strong topline and nice croup with correct tailset. Good angulations throughout, moved with purpose, another that pushed hard for topspot.
2nd Kelleway’s – Another nicely marked Mantle boy, slightly larger in frame than first, and stronger look to head, nice topline and neck, good angulation, a little unsettled, but once going moved well.

2nd McGowan’s – Kinnegans Twisted Fire Starter – Strong fawn boy, lovely head with correct planes, dark eye and mask, good drop of lip, strong neck into correct shoulders, strong topline and nicely angulated, moved well.

1st Simpson’s – Renescent Gin And Juice – 11 month blue girl, very pretty feminine head with lovely length to foreface, lovely ear set, nice length to neck into correct shoulders, good topline, nicely angulated fore and aft, moved very well for such a youngster.
2nd Page & Concannon’s – Dainoak Destined to Dream at Novavida – another lovely puppy of 11 months, who was a bit of a fidget, lots to like, and similar attributes to first, but the fidgeting let her down.
Junior Bitch 4 (1)
1st Faulder & Cook’s – Keirkanes Picture Perfect at Elvantiedane – 12 month fawn girl, such a pretty overall picture, nicely constructed throughout, good head with nice planes, good length to foreface, dark eye, nice clean length to neck into correct shoulders, lovely depth to brisket, strong topline, good angulations, moved well.
2nd Pockock’s – Tamzdane Cinndoughrella – 13 month old well marked harlequin, lovely head, with correct bite, dark eye. Nice neck into good shoulders, good topline and well tucked up, good angulation, moved well.
3rd Page & Concannon’s - Glamour Girl V Rosherta at Novavida (Imp NED)
Yearling Bitch 4 (1)
1st Bliss’s – Calchas Yodella Over Stagbatch – 22 month old well marked harlequin, good strength to head and body, lovely expression and use of ears, correct bite, good length to neck into correct shoulder, strong topline, nicely angulated, and great feet, moved well.
2nd Taylor’s – Tayhamblue Ave Got Sunshine – 18 month rich fawn bitch, much finer in build than first, very feminine head, dark eye, long neck into good shoulders, good topline, and depth to chest, lovely angulation fore and aft, moved ok, needs a little more time to reach her full potential.

Post Graduate Bitch 4 (1)
1st Holland’s – Axeford Arizona of Dramalex, Stunning young fawn bitch, very balanced, good head planes, with good expression, using her ears to the max. Good bite, dark mask and eye. Nice length to neck, flowing into well laid back shoulders, good topline, croup and tail set. Lovely angulations, cat like feet, moved well. Certainly one for the future, very happy to award her Reserve Best Bitch.
2nd Pocock’s – Tamzdane Cinndoughrella – 2nd in Junior

1st Southgate’s – Empress Elivira V Rosherta JW (Imp NLD), Lovely Black bitch, gleaming coat, nice head with good planes, good bite, nice drop of lip, strong neck into good shoulders and firm topline, nice angulation fore and aft, moved very well
2nd Middelton’s _ Damarkann Illicit Love for Dornoir – Lovely Harlequin bitch, stands foursquare, good head with great expression, good bite, nice drop of lip, firm neck into good shoulders, good topline and angulation, shame she was not moved to her full potential, a very nice bitch indeed.

1st Ingram’s – Dainmajik The Sourceress ShCM – What a lovely bitch this is, strong fawn girl, very nice head, with the softest of expression, lovely length to foreface, and good ear set, good drop of lip. Strong neck into well laid back shoulders, strong topline held firm on the move, well tucked up, good depth to brisket and width of chest, well angulated fore and aft, moved well.
2nd Kelleway’s – Jaemluks Dannie of Clunton – lovely harlequin girl, still got it all going on, similar attributes to first, however, did not move quite as well as 1st.

1st Allison’s – Ch Gretadane Honey Suckle JW – what can I say, she took my breath away, everything in all the right places, a lovely overall picture of strength and elegance. Beautiful head of lovely proportions, dark mask and eye, correct bite, strong neck flowing into the soundest of shoulders, strong topline held firm, good croup, and tail set, good depth to brisket and excellent spring of rib, good angulation fore and aft with strong firm hocks, which allowed her to power around the ring. No hesitation in awarding this girl Best in Show.

1st Pocock’s – INT/NL Ch Tamzdane Cake My Day BNLW19 EUDDC Ch’19 – beautiful young well marked girl. Very balanced throughout, lovely head piece, good bite, lovely ear set. Good strong neck into well laid back shoulders, strong topline and good croup, really well angulated both fore and aft, low set strong hocks, which gives her the soundest of movement. Lots to like about this girl, very seriously considered and pushed hard for Reserve Best in Show.

2nd Pendleton-Watkin’s – Ch Zefather’s what It Takes JW A18 – Very pretty girl, nice make and shape overall, different in stature to 1st, but similar attributes, unfortunately did not move to her full potential on the day.
